Today I woke up late and didn't get to the Massapequa Preserve until 9am. As I was driving there, I heard the forecast on the radio. It wasn't good. The temperature was going to be in the 90's through Sunday night. Luckily, most of the preserve bike path was shaded. I ran 5 miles north and just short of 5 back. It was hot even in the shade. My tank top and shorts were soaked by the end. When I got back to the car, I chugged my red Gatorade, which was hidden under the dashboard to stay cool. According to Map My Run, I ran 9.94 miles in 1:28:10, an 8:52 pace. I definitely need to get up earlier on Sunday for my 15 miler.
This is my dashboard on the way home from my run. I'm sweating just thinking about it.
I admire your commitment to marathon distance training in this weather. I'm glad you're using the Massapequa Preserve/Bethpage bike trail. A 10 mile run in this ridiculous heat and humidity is impressive. Running sub-9:00 for 90 minutes is mind boggling...
ReplyDeleteCommitment? Like to the funny farm? Yep. I'm really not looking forward to tomorrow's run. Sigh.
DeleteUgh. Was it like this last year? I can't remember. It was my first summer running, and it seems like 10 years ago.
ReplyDeleteI can't remember either. I guess that's a good thing, because if I could remember, I probably wouldn't be doing this.
