What's Your Month?

Many families I know have one month out of the year that is jam packed with relatives' birthdays.  Our month is August ...and the end of July.  Instead of "a month", we have a zodiac sign.  Leos galore.   All last week I was preparing for our birthday "extravaganza".  My son, my two youngest daughters, and my husband all have a birthday within three weeks of each other (I'm not even mentioning my father, my two nephews,  my niece, and my sister-in-law...and my two favorite U.S. presidents...but they never come by for cake).  We opted for the lump sum birthday party.  By the time all was said and done and the last guests left after midnight, I was sapped when I woke up at 7:30 this morning.  I really didn't drink that much, but I was nauseated and had a dull headache.  Either my tolerance is that of an 8 year old or I didn't eat and hydrate properly and paid for it this morning.  No 14 mile run.

I did sign up for the NYC Runs Narrows Half Marathon (See, the day was not a total wash)!  The race is on September 15 and runs along the Belt Parkway near the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge.  Our friends invited us to their annual Oktoberfest (In September) party in the Hamptons the day before.  As long as I remember to eat and drink (water), I should be good to go for the race the next day (Fingers crossed...so I can't hold any beer bottles).  My biggest disadvantage that morning may be the wind.

Happy birthday deeeear Grandpa, Sally, Bobby, Betty, Billy, Tommy,
Janie, Aunt Sarah, Uncle Dave, Jim Jr., Cousin Mary, etc. etc. etc....
happy birthday to yooou!

Does your family have a month or a sign?

  1. Family-wise we're pretty spread out, but for me things are kind of clumped together. I call it my Birthfatheversary. My birthday is June 17, my anniversary is June 18, and Father's day is usually either one of those two days, or the day before, or the day after, etc. A lot of eggs in one basket, so to speak.

As to your "hangover", maybe alcohol flush reaction? Commonly know as the "Asian Glow"?

    1. I guess, if the glowing was inside my head and stomach.

  2. A half that soon after HTC??? You really amaze me. I don't know that race but by the description you should have some nice views to look at to counteract the effects of running 13 miles fast.

I get the alcohol thing. I am a complete lightweight and I probably drink about six beers a year now. My wife says I stop talking at half a beer and start falling asleep. I'm not allowed to drink when we go out with friends anymore.

    1. Your wife doesn't like it if you fall asleep while out with your friends? I can't imagine why not. My husband has fallen asleep while "entertaining" guests, but that's usually after he has consumed a half a bottle of rum and a couple of bottles of wine. I haven't decided what's less shocking and irritating, his exaggerated snoring after said alcohol consumption or his never-ending booze babble if he somehow managed to stay awake. (Oops, perhaps I've said too much... Nah.)

    2. Well, as my favorite philosopher Homer Simpson says, "To alcohol! The cause of, and solution to all of life's problems."

  3. Ok, I've finally figured out that I need to view this blog in 'sidebar' mode to see all the comments, and I realize that I've been missing all the fun!
