urTunes?

I went out a little after 7am and ran a slow and easy 6.38 miles.  It was cool, about 41 degrees.  I broke out the fleece, capri leggings, and a hat.  My hands were cold for most of the run.  No pictures of the run, but how about of me  blogging?

It would be so much more efficient if someone could just hook me up to a chocolate/sugar IV.

"Aimée, what are your favorite running songs?" you ask.  Why, here is a list of my Top Twenty in no particular order:

1.   Lose Yourself - Eminem
2.   Stronger - Kelly Clarkson
3.   Stronger - Kanye West
4.   Gone - Kanye West
5.   Rock Star - N.E.R.D.
6.   In Step - Girl Talk
7.   Play Your Part - Girl Talk
8.   La Grange - ZZ Top
9.   Over the Hills and Far Away - Led Zeppelin
10. Let's Go Crazy - Prince & the Revolution
11. Fire Woman - The Cult
12. L.A. Woman - The Doors
13. Hold On Tight - E.L.O.
14. Somewhere Only We Know - Keane
15. All These Things That I've Done - The Killers
16. Uprising - Muse
17. Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana
18. What Makes You Beautiful - One Direction
19. Boom Boom Boom - The Outthere Brothers
20. Gimme Shelter - The Rolling Stones

My list mostly consists of songs with a pumping beat, my preference for when I'm running fast.  However, if I'm out for a long run, I like to listen to music along the lines of Jeff Buckley or Simon & Garfunkel.   My play list has everything from Tony Christie to AC/DC to Run D.M.C.

What songs get you moving?

  1. I stopped running with music a few years ago, although I occasionally blast it when I'm imprisoned on the treadmill. I studied music in college (double minor: music and computer science - weird), so my tastes are eclectic. I once did a run listening to the Heitor Villa-Lobos guitar solos (sublime), but most often it would be late 70's punk, new wave and ska, late 80's post punk/alternative or early 2000's neo-garage and indy (some rap, but nothing misogynistic, racist or homophobic). Very little '90s music inspired me.

Music is a very personal thing. I liked most of your list, but you can keep Kanye all for yourself!

    1. "...rap, but nothing misogynistic, racist or homophobic." ....so that would be MC Hammer? Just kidding. Kanye's ego is hard to swallow (as well as his baby mama), but I personally think his music is pretty awesome.

So you studied music in college? You must play an instrument then, right? Do tell.

    2. I'm surprised you didn't comment on "Boom Boom Boom." It's such a low brow, crass song, I can't help but be amused...and I love the beat.

    3. I don't like Kanye because I find his music disappointing. We have a friend who's crazy about him. She and I "debated" his talent over dinner recently while her husband and my wife sat by in horrified silence.

Boom Boom Boom is more of a novelty song and while the lyrics push the bounds of taste, I don't look at it as anti-woman. It's old school and silly, certainly not mean.

I play guitar but I haven't done much with it in the last few years. I just restrung my classical a couple of weeks ago. I broke a string a while ago and stopped playing because I was too distracted (some might call it lazy) to replace it.

    4. I used to run with music too.. now it's mostly podcasts about running, or the sciences, nature or medicine. I should try the music again. I like BoomBoomBoom.. I like a strong beat too, although I know nothing of that artist. I wake up to WQXR, a classical station. I'm a 53 yr old working with 20 and 30 year olds who play around with the satellite radio in the office, so I'm listening to music I wouldn't know where to find on the radio, or that I even knew existed. I Like Zep, Prince, Doors, some Stones, Kelly Clarkson. The stuff I listen to all the time? Sting. It has to be Sting. Lennox, Pink Floyd, Seal, Janet Jackson, Evanescence, Morissette, Anita Baker. I play the piano a TINY bit. I would love to find a choral group to sing in again like high school.

    5. You sing, ER plays the guitar...do I see a band in our future? I play a mean triangle. What would we call ourselves?

    6. The triangle is a very underrated instrument.

How about "The Pronators", "High Cadence", "DNF", "The Bonks" or "The Age Group Heros"? I could go on...

  2. : ) It took us a full month to agree on a name for our band in college. We played exactly one gig (a frat party) for free.

  3. DNF. Ha! We can call ourselve DNS and then just forget about the whole thing.
    BoomBoomBoom has lyrics?
