Hoka, Lime, and Sneaker

(Get it?)

I had been in search of Hoka One One sneakers for months.  The regular price ranges from $130 to $170, a pretty penny indeed.  I was hoping to find a discounted pair online, however they were never available in my size, Delicate Petite.  Instead, the ones that are marked down tend to be Size Clown or Sasquatch (No offense to clowns, sasquatches or anyone with feet larger than a women's 6.  I'm sure your feet have served you well.   Mine just happen to be unusually dainty and attractive.)  (Oh, I'm kidding, they're just as calloused and stinky as yours...).  I finally came to terms with the fact that I will have to pay full price.  I called a local running store that went ahead and ordered a pair in my size.  They come in many styles and colors, I wound up with the Cliftons in coral.  Not my first choice (I preferred lime), but beggars can't be choosers.  I was happy to learn that everything in the store is 15% off, so I paid $120, including tax.

The next day I couldn't wait to try them out.  I laced them up (wrong) and the first thing I noticed was that I was now tall (relatively speaking).  Cool!  It's like wearing high heels without the excruciating discomfort.  I pranced out the front door and began my 6.4 mile test run, not before tripping down the path to the sidewalk.  I worried that I might be falling all over the place due to this new height, but luckily that was my only misstep.  So what was it like?  I told Freighbor it was like running on pillows filled with clouds and rainbows!  The cushion felt great on my bones.  Plus, they are so lightweight, it's literally like running on air.  I have been running in them ever since with no hip pain or stumbles.  You might say, I'm Hoka-ed (Get it?).

  1. Yay i told you i am slowly starting my runs again up to about 5miles now hopefully the doc will clear me to start my usual running next week. Right you descibed them to a tee running on pillows filled with clouds and yes as i stand a staggering 5'3 on a good day with the sun behind me i loved that they gave me a little height. Yay us finally back on the road running pain free. Enjoy them.

  3. Glad your hip pain has subsided! Are Hoka's new to you or have you always run in them? I'm pretty committed to my Asics Nimbus. I've only bought those since 2011 and have since been injury free so I'm superstitious. But also interested what others do to switch up shoes etc.

    1. Hokas are new to me. Adidas have always been my go-to shoes. I decided to try the Hokas because I read they were good for people with high arches and helped prevent injuries. I will keep my Adidas for races, but I will stick with the Hokas for all of my training runs. I love them.

  4. So you rejected the discounted Hokas because you didn't like the color and then paid full price to get shoes in a color that you don't like? I'm sure that makes sense in SIOR-world.

Congratulations on joining the cult of Hoka. I was concerned that they would feel awkward and unbalanced, but it seems like you had good runs.Too bad you can't walk steps with them.

    1. Uh, I rejected the discounted Hokas because they didn't have my delicate petite size. Keep up. I thought my ADD was bad...

  5. I got confused when I read "delicate" because I thought you must be talking about someone else.
